My name is Rachel Connolly Kwock, Birth Doula / Photographer, and Content Creator. I have enjoyed serving women and families for the past 6+ years in northern NJ, for doula work, and globally via videos and Birth Point of View (BirthPOV). My goal is to empower you to have the easiest and most enjoyable birth you can experience.
My approach (for birth support) is to start the process early during pregnancy with body movements conducive to a more fluid birth as well as helping you get in a positive mind-set and introduce positive thinking and stories around birth that will ultimately help your birth hormones release and help you experience a physiologic birth "that is powered by the innate human capacity of the woman and fetus."
KNOW YOUR OPTIONS
I am not rigid about making sure you have a natural birth or anything, but you can be sure I am going to teach you about unnecessary interventions and how you can avoid a "cascade of interventions." We will have conversations at our prenatal visit where we will talk about asking questions and knowing your options. We will do this in advance of the birth because at the birth it is best to maintain peace and calm in the labor and delivery room and with your provider and medical personnel.
It is one of my goals as a doula to help soften the system and work with places and practices that are embrace and support physiologic birth. To this end, I strive to work at the local hospitals that offer options for comfort, such as water baths, squat bars, peanut balls, and work with doctors and nurses who understand and respect a woman's right to choose her birth experience. There are ways a doula can help bridge the "natural birth" world and the medical world and help make your birth experience safer and more joyful.
