Hello and welcome! My name is Rachel Connolly Kwock, Birth Doula, Birth Photographer, and Documentary filmmaker. I have enjoyed serving women and families for the past 6+ years in northern NJ, for doula work, and globally via videos and BirthPOV. My goal is to empower you and your partner (or just you - I love supporting solo moms!) to have the easiest an most enjoyable birth you can experience. My approach is to start the process early during pregnancy with body movements conducive to a more fluid birth as well as helping you get in a positive mind-set and introduce positive thinking and stories around birth that will ultimately help your birth hormones release and help you experience a physiologic birth "that is powered by the innate human capacity of the woman and fetus." I am not rigid about making sure you have a natural birth or anything, but you can be sure I am going to teach you about unnecessary interventions and how you can avoid a "cascade of interventions." We will have conversations at our prenatal visit where we will talk about asking questions and knowing your options. We will do this in advance of the birth because at the birth it is best to maintain peace and calm in the labor and delivery room and with your provider and medical personnel. It is also a goal of mine to help bridge the "natural birth" world and the medical world. It is very rewarding to work with doctors who practice evidenced based care in hospitals that offer options for comfort. Expectant mothers shouldn't feel they have to have a home birth because the hospital option because it is so horrible. Hospitals and medical centers should have wonderful options for mothers, like water baths, squat bars, peanut balls, and more staffed with doctors and nurses who understand and respect a woman's right to choose her birth experience. Homebirth and hospital birth should be options that offers the same secure knowing that you will your birth wishes will be respected, your birth experience will be protected, and unnecessary interventions will be avoided. it is my goal as a doula to help soften the system and work with places and practices that are embrace and support physiologic birth to make birth safer and more joyful for you and for all. Please get in touch with me today, so we can set-up a time to chat about your upcoming birth.
